Three everyday calculations

Use the equation, check the units, and see the working.

These tools are intended for routine research and teaching calculations. Review the result before preparing a laboratory solution, and follow your laboratory's safety and quality procedures.

01

Formula → g/mol

Molar mass calculator

Enter a molecular formula. Parentheses, square brackets and hydrates are supported.

Molar mass = Σ (atomic mass × number of atoms)

Calculated molar mass203.295 g/mol
Mg1 atomCl2 atomsH12 atomsO6 atoms
02

Solutions and pH

Acid, base and solution calculator

Calculate solute mass, a dilution volume, or the ideal pH of a strong acid or base.

m = M × V(L) × molar mass

Solute required2 g

Dissolve the solute and make the solution up to the final volume.

03

Balanced equation → stoichiometric quantity

Moles and reaction calculator

Enter a balanced reaction, choose a known substance, and calculate the target quantity.

target moles = known moles × (target coefficient ÷ known coefficient)

Calculated quantity for H2O3 mol

Important limitations

What these calculators assume.

Atomic masses are rounded standard values. Hydrates and grouped formulas are supported, but isotopically labelled compounds and ionic charge notation are not included in the molar-mass parser.

The pH calculator uses the ideal strong-acid or strong-base approximation at 25 °C. It should not be used for buffers, weak acids, weak bases, activity corrections or highly concentrated solutions.

Reaction calculations require a correctly balanced equation. The tool checks element counts before applying the stoichiometric ratio.
